As human beings we love the sunrise and the sunset. Each of these have their own significance to us.

We have forever worshipped the sun, and for good reason. It begins the chain of events that will eventually nourish us but providing energy for our crops to grow. It keeps us warm. It boosts our moods and makes us feel happy. And ultimately it makes us want to get up in the morning and live another day.

They can be some of the most beautiful forms of art ever, painting the skies with their myriad of colours.

The sunrise signifies the the dawn of a new and fresh day. The sun, bringer of life, shines upon us once more.

I'm sure that everyone keeps at least a few photos of the sunset to remind them of romantic evenings and prospects for the day to follow. After all, "red sky at night, shepherd's delight".

Below are a few pictures that capture the atmosphere....enjoy :-)

Above is the very first sunrise of 2011 shown behind Mt.Baker in Washington State.

The yellow sun is just peeping over the mountain top, giving a warm glow. The promise of another year to come.

In the foreground are the tracks of last year's tractors, filled with crisp cold ice, waiting for the fire of the sun to be warm them once again.

A Brilliant winter sunrise over a snowy field...

This time the sun is a little higher and set in a cloudless blue sky, you can almost feel it pierce the cold air with its rays.

Sunset by the sea-shore..a classic...

Reminding us of happy vacation times...

Here the cloud is perfectly placed as the sun is still strong and has not yet turned to red...

The pink glow of the sky even after the sun has gone down...

Taken together with the still waters, this almost brings about a yawn and gently suggests that it's time to say goodnight...

Appreciate the sun, it will always be there for you...
